On June 17^th and 18^th, the “Badminton with You-70^th-Anniversary Cup” professional master’s badminton tournament was grandly held at the badminton courts of the Harbin Engineering University Comprehensive Gymnasium, organized by the School of Economic Management. A total of 53 students from the MBA, MPA, and MEM programs of the 2020-2023 academic years participated in 10 segments and 34 highly competitive matches, fully embodying the spirit of “Precision of Engineering, Truth of Science” of PLA. Mr. HAN Guoyuan, the director of the Professional Degree Center, gave a speech at the opening ceremony as a special guest, while Professor MENG Fansheng acted as the award presenter, and Professor WANG Ming of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering acted as the chief referee.

The summer campus, free from the shadow of the epidemic, saw enthusiastic participation from students and alumni of the past four years, providing a space for the new 2023 students to showcase their skills before starting their studies in September. Participants actively trained for two weeks during their spare time to prepare for the two-day tournament. The first day included the “16 into 8” and “8 into 4” rounds for the entire segment, while the second day featured the semi-finals and finals for the entire segment. The “16 into 8” race followed the 21-point single-game format, while the “8 into 4” and semi-finals adopted the 15-point triple-game format in which two wins were required to advance.

The competition balanced the professionalism of badminton and the physical demands of student athletes. In the end, LU Yuchuan, a 2020 MPA student, won the men’s singles championship, while WANG Shuang, a 2022 MPA student, won the women’s singles championship. MBA students LIU Yunliang and LI Chaoqun from the 2022 class won the men’s doubles championship, and LIU Xuan and LI Jing from the 2022 class won the women’s doubles championship.

This successful tournament not only infused a healthy sports culture into Harbin Engineering University, but also showcased the exceptional physical fitness and unyielding spirit of the student athletes. It provided an opportunity for all MBA, MPA, and MEM students to build harmonious friendships through friendly competition. This helped foster communication, unity, and friendship among students, and left an indelible mark on the upcoming 70th anniversary celebration of the university.

School of Economics and Management, as the organizer, demonstrated its professionalism and thoughtfulness in planning and service, and showcased its comprehensive organization, high standards in the preparation and operation of the tournament and the exceptional education and manage capacity of Harbin Engineering University.
