On the morning of October 11th, 2023, at 12:00 AM, all 2022 undergraduate students of the School of Economics and Management gathered for a new semester grade conference at the Yifu Building. A total of 197 students participated in the event, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their academic journey. Having successfully completed their freshman year, these students are now entering a fresh phase of university life.

The meeting was chaired by ZHANG Shengqiang, the counselor for the 2022 undergraduate cohort. After the introductions, Counselor ZHANG shared a practical tip for enhancing productivity: taking notes during meetings with a notebook. He emphasized that this simple practice can significantly improve work efficiency. At the outset of the meeting, ZHANG also offered a creative suggestion to the students—"condense your own labels." He explained that freshmen, being new to university life, often resemble one another in the eyes of their peers, which can lead to a lack of distinctiveness in social interactions. He urged students to embrace the challenge of standing out, stating that a student without a "memory point" would struggle to make a lasting impression.
ZHANG further explained that personal growth comes from identifying one's strengths, developing a well-thought-out self-plan, seizing opportunities, and consistently leveraging one's advantages. He highlighted that by doing so, students can transcend their current limitations and unlock a more vibrant and fulfilling university experience.
ZHANG also addressed the increasingly competitive nature of postgraduate entrance examinations. He pointed out that while 4.74 million candidates are taking the national exams this year, only 1.25 million will succeed. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but reassured the students that the college is actively supporting their future endeavors. The college has maintained frequent communication with alumni-led companies to establish internship and employment opportunities for students. Events like the campus recruitment by China Construction Bank's Heilongjiang Branch on October 10th are part of these ongoing efforts.
In closing, ZHANG shared his expectations for the students' academic and personal development in the coming months. He stressed the importance of adhering to basic rules: not staying out late at night, attending classes regularly, maintaining cleanliness in dormitories, staying informed about internship and employment opportunities, attending various lectures, and practicing basic politeness in interactions.
