The commencement of International Academic Forum on the Potential of Sino-Russian Carbon Emission Reduction Cooperation under the 'Carbon Neutrality' Goal

On October 26, 2022, the School of Economics and Management at Harbin Engineering University hosted the "International Academic Forum on the Potential of Sino-Russian Carbon Emission Reduction Cooperation under the 'Carbon Neutrality' Goal." The aim is to promote the concept of sustainable development and contribute to the realization of the "dual carbon" goals. This forum brought together six distinguished experts and scholars from Chinese and Russian universities and research institutions to exchange ideas on carbon neutrality. Over 50 faculty and students from universities and research institutions such as Harbin Engineering University, Northeast Electric Power University, Jilin Railway Vocational and Technical College, Russian Transport Academy, Russian State Transport University, and Moscow Automobile Research Institute participated online. The conference was presided over by Associate Professor Alina Steblyanskaya from the School of Economics and Management at Harbin Engineering University.

During the conference, Professor Misharin, A.S. of the Russian Transport Academy delivered a welcome address, in which he expressed his gratitude to the experts and guests in attendance and emphasized the importance of this academic event in the field of carbon neutrality. He hoped that this forum would serve as a platform for experts and scholars to share their experiences, discuss future development models, and explore new ways of collaboration. Professor Misharin also expressed his desire to deepen cooperation with Chinese universities. It aimed to foster international exchanges and talent development and provide more theoretical support and technical solutions for carbon neutrality.

LI Wanhong, Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Management, extended a warm welcome to the experts and scholars attending the international academic forum. She emphasized the importance for close cooperation between China and Russia in the energy sector in recent years and the alignment of both countries' carbon reduction concepts and goals. She expressed the expectation that the lectures by scholars would bring new ideas, methods, and perspectives to further enhance collaboration between China and Russia in the field of carbon neutrality.

Professor XU Guanghua, Director of the Industry-Education Integration Center at Jilin Railway Vocational and Technical College, delivered a welcoming speech, in which he explained the significance of achieving carbon neutrality and the progress of China and Russia in this regard. He hoped that the experts would provide valuable insights through in-depth discussions to strengthen collaboration in the field of carbon neutrality between the two countries.

Additionally, Professor Misharin A.S from the Russian Transport Academy congratulated the convening of this academic forum. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between Russia and China in the journey towards "carbon neutrality."

During the academic presentation session, Dr. WANG Qian from the School of Railway Engineering at Jilin Railway Vocational and Technical College gave a presentation titled "The Promotional Role of Sino-Russian Collaboration in Building the Ice Silk Road for Achieving Carbon Neutrality." She introduced the background of the Ice Silk Road construction and its role in realizing "carbon neutrality."

Associate professor WANG Zhuo from the School of Automation Engineering of Northeast Electric Power University delivered a report titled"New measures to expand cooperation in the field of Sino Russian transport under the the Belt and Road".

Professor Efimova O. V., Director of the Department of Industry and Information Technology at Russian Jiao Tong University, presented a report on "Economic Evaluation of Carbon Emissions in Transport Routes Based on Multiple Modes of Transportation" , in which she introduced an economic evaluation method for carbon emissions in transportation routes.

Associate Professor Matveeva I.G. from the School of Economics and Finance at the Russian State Transport University analyzed the impact of economic transformation on the economic development and carbon neutrality of China and Russia, using both countries as examples.

Professor Trofimenko Yu.V., Chairman of the Road Transport Department at the Moscow Automobile Research Institute and a Technology Science Doctor, presented a report titled "Forecasting the Decarbonization Scenario of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Transport - Based on the Formation of Advanced Technologies in the Transport Sector." He analyzed the decarbonization scenario of the Russian transportation sector and presented a vision for achieving carbon neutrality.

Following the academic presentations, Professor XU Guanghua delivered the closing remarks. He expressed gratitude to the scholars and experts for their constructive suggestions regarding Sino-Russian carbon neutrality cooperation and hoped that this forum would be the starting point for continued collaboration in the application of carbon-neutral technologies and economic analysis in the transportation sector. Professor Sokolov Yu.I. also congratulated the successful organization of the forum, seeing it as a foundation for Sino-Russian collaboration in achieving carbon neutrality goals. He expressed his expectations that academic forums like this would continue to promote energy-efficient and carbon reduction cooperation in the sector.

The successful conclusion of this forum provides valuable inspiration and a significant platform for research in the field of carbon neutrality. It also paves the way for international academic exchanges and cooperation between the School of Economics and Management at Harbin Engineering University and Russian universities and research institutions.
